Abadeh is situated between Shiraz and Isfahan and shows elements of both areas. These robust pieces are quite finely knotted like Isfahan pieces while showing motifs seen on Qashqai rugs from the area around Shiraz. A traditional design with a central medallion and four spandrels each containing a large floral motif that slips under the border. I like these illusions as one might notice from my other descriptions. The central field is a riot of flowers and creatures on a bold red ground. Red seems to be the dominant colour on these pieces and the design here is also typical. Note the lovely floral border on a deep green background.

Condition:

Quite worn with one area down to the foundation. There is also a repair which looks like a patch sewn into the rug. Otherwise this is a remarkably strong rug.
