This design is known as Gul Farang or foreign flower and was influenced by European tastes. It was obviously made for the export market with it’s large Aubusson like roses on rich red ground. It may not to be to everyone’s taste but I think this rug has a good look and would look stunning in the right room. It is more finely knotted than most Afshar rugs and the colours are good and strong. I love the abrash in the main field and the delicate floral border. A very good decorative rug with a high quality weave and a glowing sheen.

Condition:

Some wear to the pile at the top centre. There are a few bumps due to its all wool foundation but altogether good condition.
