Afshar rugs are not uncommon but these types with their woollen foundation, bright red wefts and rich colours are hard to find. This example with its ivory field and allover design of floral motifs interconnected by fine tendrils is simply stunning. It is one of the rarer types for sure and I am very happy to have it grace my rug room. As one would expect on a 19th century rug the colours are wonderful, the flowers picked out in fresh tones glow against the light background. The fragile tendrils might be overlooked initially but I find their addition very pleasing. A truly great example that still has its original soumac ends.
