This attractive little piece was probably made as a sampler rug to show the quality and colours of the weavers wares. I am big fan of the boteh as a motif, this ancient emblem which has traversed continents and centuries is still going strong. It is beautifully drawn and fills the main field and is reminiscent of the large boteh infilled with decoration that are seen on Khamseh Baharlu rugs. Abstract floral motifs surround the boteh and complete the asymmetrical design. An unusual and pleasing example.
