The mina khani design is one of my favourites and is common on Belouch pieces. The bright red is also typical on the better types and here it is beautifully set off against the deep blue background. The minimal use of white ensures the small diamonds that fit around the floral motifs stand out. There is a randomness to their positioning especially at the bottom of the rug where one row is missing and there is a scattering of red and brown flowers that take their place. You can often see how a rug design is formed as the weaver continues up the rug with the most variation seen at the bottom of the rug, the border often widens or narrows too as they work out the best proportions of the rug. I love this inconsistency in old rugs and I think it adds interest to them.

Condition:

Good condition with some wear to the brown pile and a couple of areas where some foundation is showing. Otherwise a strong rug with quite a tight weave.
