Bijar rug, circa 1900
Measurements: 143cm x 98cm (4’8 x 3’3)
90 Knots per inch
Price: £170
This is an attractive piece with shiny wool and rich colours. As ever with Bijar rugs it is tightly woven and quite robust, it has some condition issues which reduce the price markedly but despite this it is very strong. The deep blue field is covered in sprays of flowers picked out in reds and blues with a distinct coral pink contrasting against the dark background. This is a lovely piece and shows that one can have a genuine antique rug for less than a new one if you are prepared to compromise on condition. To me the wear and tear is part of it’s story.
Condition:
This has some cracking on the warps which can be seen more easily on the back, it also has a few tension issues that cause it to sit up in places. Despite this I still think it could live in areas of high wear without any concerns as it is extremely robust. The price is reduced to reflect these issues.
