Bijar rugs are robust with their wefts pulled tight and the warps sitting one on top of the other. The older ones like this have a great palette and the colours shine like jewels. The light blue surrounding the main field shifts in tone throughout and appears like a pool of water. The deep blue of the central medallion is wonderful and is complemented by the soft greens as well as the contrasting red and pink. Bijar rugs are among my favourite decorative rugs and despite it’s condition this one doesn’t disappoint.

Condition:

Overall wear with the top warps showing through in places. Some loss to the ends and repairs to the selvedge. Despite these issue this is a remarkably strong rug.
