Jaf bag, circa 1900
Measurements: 46cm x 39cm
54 Knots per inch
Price: £80
A typical Jaf saddlebag with an allover field of colourful diamonds containing reciprocal hooked motifs. These Jaf pieces are always colourful with strong reds and a good aubergine on the older examples. Offset knotting is a common feature where the vertically adjacent knots share a warp, this allows for a smoother drawing of the diagonals. The placement of the coloured diamonds is far from regular but the central white diamond is obviously deliberate and creates a strong central focus. Condition is an issue but it is an opportunity to buy a good old tribal saddlebag at a very affordable price.
Condition:
The core of the piece is in reasonable condition but the sides and ends are quite damaged.
