There are a number of qualities I look for in a rug and these Ghiordes prayer rugs satisfy the archaic look that I find so attractive. They are thin in weave and invariably woven upside down, that is the mihrab is executed first. The palette is often so markedly different to other rugs which makes them stand out. This has a soft pistachio green in the centre and is surrounded by mutliple red and white borders which is a typical feature. It has some considerable age and obvious wear but still I find it remarkable and interesting. In the right space I think this would add a touch of gravitas and elegance to a room whether on the floor or hung on the wall.

Condition:

Very worn with obvious lines of wear across the field. It is still strong enough to be used in most situations.
