Ghiordes prayer rug, circa 1920
Measurements: 161cm x 112cm (5’3 × 3’8)
151 Knots per inch
Price: £130
I date this rug quite precisely as it comes with some provenance, belonging to the archaeologist Seton Howard Frederick Lloyd who purchased it around 1920. It lacks the archaic look of the older examples but it has a nice light palette and although it might sound odd I do like the wear to the red field. As is typical of these pieces it is woven upside down starting at the prayer mihrab. A genuine antique rug with a story at a very affordable price.
Condition:
The central field is very worn and there is a hole which is visible on the photographs.
