Hamadan rug, early 20th century

Measurements: 196cm x 137cm (6’5 x 4’6)

72 Knots per inch

Price: £420

Another robust Hamadan rug with a solid cotton foundation and some strong colours. The central red field is flanked by four spandrels with a refreshingly bright blue and some good abrash. The central medallion has a lovely deep blue which sets off the central white diamond. I love the ornamentation in the field with flowers and leaves joined by tendrils, a design often seen in borders of rugs from this and neighbouring regions. This is a good example of a Hamadan rug at an affordable price.

Condition:

Some variation in the pile colour which may be due to fading in places. Otherwise this is a strong rug in good condition.
