Heriz rugs have always had a powerful effect on me, the good ones of course. Firstly the colours are so rich, irresistibly beautiful I would say with their coral reds, deep blues, strong abrashed greens and soft light blues. Then the complexity of the design has to be appreciated. It is impossible to take in as a whole, I believe them to be deliberately confusing and I am often hypnotised by this combination of complex interconnected patterns and wonderful colour. My first flirtation with oriental rugs was a chenille copy of a Heriz design that I bought forty years ago, soon I began to see how good the real things are and now I have this beauty hanging on my wall. The photographs can’t do it justice but I promise you it is a wonder to behold.
