These smaller Heriz pieces are very popular and increasingly hard to find. This one shows the rich colours we come to expect from a good old example. The design explodes from the centre in layers, first pink rosette flanked with ivory surrounded by a deep blue main medallion which is filled with large flower heads, then into the red field where tendrils join the smaller floral motifs. Finally the ivory corners completes the picture and lightens the rug. These layers creates depth as the colours either retreat or pop out, the red field for example appears below the ivory spandrels. The deep blue border shows off the interlocking palmettes and is typical on Heriz rugs. A classic rug with a bright disposition and useful size.
