Jaf bagface, second half 19th century
Measurements: 85cm x 103cm
40 Knots per inch
Price: £180
A crude but colourful example of Kurdish weaving. I call it Jaf based on the design elements and palette although it has no offset knotting so that casts some doubt on the actual provenance. The central compressed memling gul sits within a hooked octagon in a bright blue field. The two contrasting main borders frame the field and the bottom panel adds some interest with its four lozenges and its own separate border. I love these tribal pieces for their lively designs and strong colours.
Condition:
Some wear to the field and the top and bottom have some damage, the price reflects this.
