Karabagh rug, circa 1900

Measurements: 326cm x 144cm (10’8 x 4’9)

56 Knots per inch

Price: £1,250

An unusual Karabagh rug with a purple background. Typically for rugs made in this region the colours are quite bright, sometimes garish but this one is more subdued and I think the purple with it’s abrash is very special. The central medallion floats over a background of stylised boteh surrounded by a host of smaller motifs. I think this is a great rug with an unusual palette.

Condition:

Reasonable condition for it’s age. Some low pile with the lighter foundation showing through in places. The sides have some restoration and the odd crease and the ends have some loss.
