Karaja rugs are very decorative and affordable, they share the palette and some of the design characteristics of their close cousins in Heriz and can be distinguished by their single wefts. The three medallions are surrounded by a busy field of geometric and floral designs. The main border is a typical interlocking design, I find the complexity of the pattern fascinating and wonder how difficult it must be to build these designs up one row of knots at a time. This is a solid rug with an attractive palette that could be used in any room in the house.

Condition:

Some loss to the ends which have been stabilised, minor repairs and a little wear but otherwise very sound.
