A stunning example of the type, this Baharlu Khamseh is relatively finely knotted and has beautifully soft wool. I find the design mesmerising as the army of large boteh march across the field from left to right. Note how none of them line up, it is as if this is a snapshot in time with some boteh emerging from under the border on the left as others begin to slip away to the right. The field between them is crammed with abstract and floral designs with the occasional smaller boteh all merging and running together to almost obscure the white background. One can only marvel at the complexity of design and wonder how the weaver executed this one line at a time. The simpler border is strong with rich colours, I love the balance of light blue against deep red and the arrow head protrusions that mesh the border into the field. An altogether wonderful piece in every aspect.
