I am always attracted to old Turkish rugs, in the main because their palettes are so unusual which can certainly be said for this Kirsehir rug from central Turkey. It does in fact have a typical Kirsehir palette, showing a soft pink and yellow along with shades of olive green and dark aubergine. I love the white floral spray that sits within the prayer mihrab on the pink background, I think it is the delicately drawn flowers and the way the white combines with the pink so well. This part of the design has an archaic look to it as does the green areas which have been extensively repaired. Sometimes old repairs once faded in can actually enhance the look of a rug and I think this is the case here. A very interesting and attractive piece.

Condition:

Lots of repaired areas, some better than others with some loss to the bottom end.
