Kurdish rug, early 20th century

Measurements: 252cm x 127cm (8’3 x 4’2)

48 Knots per inch

Price: £650

A heavy thick piled Kurdish rug with the typical all wool foundation and a floppy feel despite it’s thickness. As always with Kurdish rugs the colour is strong and the wool lustrous. Unusually the border dominates the central field, it is both more interesting in design and brighter in colour. The central field is a little squashed by the bold border which can create an imbalance in design but I consider the border to be so good that somehow the rug retains an overall beauty. The outer border often seen in North Persian pieces is echoed in the inner border. I think this rug would grace any room and warm it with it’s bright colour.

Condition:

Good pile, a little loss to one end and there are currently a few patches that have been darned onto a backing cloth. Available in current condition but also scheduled for repair after which the price will be adjusted.
