Kurdish rug, first half 20th century

Measurements: 273cm x 169cm (8’11 x 5’7)

56 Knots per inch

Price: £1,200

This is an attractive rug with good pile. The central lozenge floats on a deep red field that has some good abrash, the spandrels echo the design of the central lozenge with a host of motifs crowded together against a rich blue background. I particularly like the way the lozenge is finished at each end with a striking red and white stripes converging at the apex. Although not particularly old I think it retains some of the beauty seen in older Kurdish pieces.

Condition:

Very good condition with a little unravelling of the plaiting at one end and a medium size repair close to one end which can be seen in the photographs.
