Kurdish rug, circa 1900

Measurements: 200cm x 103cm (6’7 x 3’5)

56 Knots per inch

Price: £150

This is a difficult rug to place. Most likely North west Persia and of quite crude construction and design. I call it Kurdish rather than Sarab despite the bold use of camel hair. The weave is typical of north Persian rugs and I think it most likely made at home rather than in a workshop. I love it’s simplicity and the strong colours in the border complement the camel central field beautifully. This is a lovely antique rug at a very reasonable price.

Condition:

The main issue is the retreating ends which have eaten into the centre of the rug. There is some heavy wear towards the ends too. The selvedges are damaged in a few places. It is priced accordingly.
