Kurdish saddlebag, second half 19th century

The better part of a pair of saddlebags that I am selling individually. As ever Kurdish colours as seen here are rich and well balanced. I love Kurdish pieces and I often remark how unusual a particular piece might be but actually there is so much variation and natural artistry in their designs that unusual is the norm if that makes sense. Note on the red side how the diamond is eclipsed by the border, one might think an odd decision but the asymmetry creates an interest that makes you look more closely and think about the weaver’s aim. A great little saddlebag.
