This is a classic Tulip Ladik with a lovely palette and a great look. Rugs from the city of Ladik in central Anatolia are uncommon and the older pieces can fetch high prices. I believe this one to be a little later, perhaps around 1880. There is something about Turkish rugs that excites me, possibly because you don’t see many of them and the palette is so different to Caucasian and Persian pieces. I find this one very pleasing and I particularly like the main border, the contrast of the blue against the red field is delightful too.

Condition:

There is s a lot of old restoration on this rug, major areas have been rewoven and this is visible in the red field. I think the restoration doesn’t detract from its beauty and having some age has mellowed and become part of its story.
