At first sight this looks like a classic Mazlaghan with its serrated diamond dominating the main field but the weave is finer and the presence of a strong synthetic red points to the nearby district of Malayer. I would normally shun rugs with synthetic dyes as they tend to be harsh on the eye. This however has faded on the front to a nice hue, the wool is very shiny too which makes the rug come alive. The presence of abrash in the red background gives a really strong impression of depth with the red field opening out behind the central lozenge. It is also finely woven which makes for a well drawn design. This is an inexpensive rug with a classic look, the infinite world that is glimpsed in the red field is thrown in free of charge for you to explore.

Condition:

Good condition. Synthetic colours throughout all of which have some fading. There is small burn mark where the pile is visibly lower.
