Sarabs are instantly recognisable with their camel outer borders although this can occasioanally be seen on rugs from neighbouring areas as well. They are generally long narrow pieces with two wefts between each row of knots which differentiates them from Hamadans and other near neigbours. Another feature and one I love to see is the random placement of small motifs in the outer border. There seems to be no logic in their placement, a crude tiny boteh or a small cluster of red knots, occasionally a human figure appears. This runner has all the elements that make tribal rugs special including it’s own collection or random motifs scattered along the border.

Condition:

Quite a lot of wear to the central field which can be seen in the photographs. The ends are secured and the selvedges have been reworked at some point. This is a very wonky rug which may be a problem if you intend to use it in a narrow hallway.
