This is a later example of Sarouk weaving which has long been associated with quality and robust finely knotted pieces. It isn’t perhaps the type of rug I am normally drawn to but I thought it a very strong piece with a pleasing allover design. It is a very finely knotted and an extremely thick and sturdy rug with the knots packed in tightly and the wefts pulling the warps on top of each other. I think the design is deliberately aimed to please the western market and many Sarouk rugs found their way to American and European homes. Note the single dot of blue at the bottom, one might think it an example of the deliberate mistake although I can see many more mistakes in the drawing so prefer to think of it as signature, whichever it does make me smile.
