Senneh rug, early 20th century

Measurements: 96cm x 62cm (3’2 x 2’)

143 Knots per inch

Price: £150

A very finely knotted little mat from Northern Iran with a classic look. These pieces have a cotton foundation and a single weft between each row of knots which is typical of rugs from this area. Senneh rug are however much finer than their counterparts in Hamadan and surrounding towns. The red central field is flanked by four stepped spandrels which mimic the stepped central diamond. I think at this price it is a fine piece which I don’t expect to be hangng around the rug room for long.

Condition:

Some wear to the central field as can be seen on the red ground. There is loss to both ends but otherwise a sound little rug.
