Shahsavan runner, circa 1900

Measurements: 413cm x 100cm (13’7 x 3’3)

36 Knots per inch

Price: £450

A very colourful and robust runner with quite a crude weave. At just 36 knots per inch they don’t come much coarser than this but I am not one to judge a rug on the fineness of it’s weave. Colour to me is much more important as is the design and ‘look’ and this is an attractive runner. The width may make it difficult to place in the modern home but there is no question about it’s strength and I as I often say about these pieces ‘you could drive your car over it’. Multi coloured diamonds run down the spine of the runner framed with a reciprocal hooked design. The spaces to the side are filled with triangular motifs that hint at an infinite field of diamonds. Despite the coarse weave the design is articulated well and the overall effect is very pleasing.

Condition:

Quite a lot of wear with one tension wear to the side which I may deal with soon. Otherwise this is a remarkably strong piece with many years of wear left in it.
