Shiraz is a term used for this type and quality of rug. They have the appearance of Qashqai pieces but were made in larger numbers and lesser quality. There are some very bad examples to be found out there with muddy reds and coarse weaves. This is a rather pretty example with its bright blue field adorned with boteh and a number of chickens picked out in different colours. I like to have more affordable pieces as long as they are antiques in the real sense of the term and have a look. I think this has a good palette and a good design, a good old rug to to grace any room in the house.

Condition:

Quite worn in the main field but the ends and sides are good.
