This particular type of Shirvan with conjoined diamonds running up the centre and saw edged medallions at either end is of a recognised type. Mostly long rugs with well articulated designs on a blue ground, the linked S border is also a common feature of the type. I think this is a very beautiful rug, the colours are so bright and the design crisp and excitingly busy. It is nice to see so much yellow in a rug and it shows off the border design at its best. The overall impact is breathtaking and I don’t think it would work in many situations as I fear it would dominate a room. These old Caucasian rugs are treasures and there is little to compare with their beauty I think.
Condition:
Good condition, there is a small reweave to the plaited end.
