Tekke Engsi, circa 1900

Measurements: 144cm x 121cm

98 Knots per inch

Price: £680

These door hangings are among my favourite Turkoman pieces. This piece is a Tekke with an asymmetric knot open to the right. It has a very pleasing palette with dominant soft red contrasted by a dark blue, green and a light cream. The standard palette of the Turkoman piece. For some reason I am drawn to the light brown, I like this tone and the way it complements the stronger colours. The knotting is quite coarse horizontally with 7 knots per inch but the vertical knotting has 14 knots per inch. The backing has been sewn under in the corners which make it quite usable as a rug, it is actaully a very robust piece. One of my current favourites.

Condition:

Fairly good condition with a little wear.
