Uzbek bagface, early 20th century
Measurements: 89cm x 78cm
Price: £120
A handsome little bagface from Uzbekistan. The motifs are reminiscent of the Raqa or pond turtle motif seen on Kurdish rugs. I think sometimes designs come about because the nature of weaving lends itself to their particular pattern. This however is remarkably similar and designs do travel and are adopted by the local weavers with the only distinguishing factors being the construction approach and dyes. This is quite an intricate kelim bag, the allover central field surrounded by some intricate and interesting borders. I imagine it would have been one of a pair.
