Turkoman weaving is a specialist subject and often the final destination of the collector. They can appear too regular and lacking in colour variation to the untrained eye but they are amongst some of the finest examples of the woven arts. The good ones are finely knotted with high quality wool and rich colours, they often show some fascinating design techniques that create a three dimensional appearance. This can be seen here with the guls decreasing in height as they progress towards the elem panel which is beautfully decorated. The reciprocal red and black borders edge the main border which eclipses the inner field. This is a delightful example and a very fine chuval.
