The distinctive plum, field and the bold reciprocal running dog border announces this as a Yomut, perhaps one of the easier Turkomans to identify. It is very finely knotted and the pile has a sheen that we always see on old turkoman chuvals. The design is regimented with sixteen simple guls interspersed with cruciform secondary motifs which drift under the borders, top and bottom. The rug connoisseur often finishes their journey collecting these pieces because of their high quality and rich tones. The elem panel on this piece is lively with a pattern reminiscent of kaleidoscopes.
